I found this little guy in the garden today. He is tiny, maybe 2mm body length, and very agile. He jumps without provocation, and was quite a frustrating subject to photograph. I haven't noticed these little spiders before, so whether they are found around here often, or this one is a pioneer settler, I'm not really sure. I had a quick search on the 'net, and I'd guess he is Oxyopes, but if anyone knows more, I'm keen to hear. :)

More stunning photos. Thank you! He is certainly ready to be a man about life, isn't he?

Most certainly an Oxyopes! And a beautiful one at that. I have found my Oxyopes salticus difficult to photograph. They are sly little guys, and quick.

Lynne, he sure is ready. I always see boxing gloves when I look at male spiders ready to mate ... makes me laugh at the wrong moments at the fights :)

Oh dear, I hope this is not a social gaff or faux pas. I know everyone hates a smarty

These guys appeared about a year ago. It was just after a new steel fence had replaced the old grass and chicken-wire property boundary. Before that there were only the normal ones as seen on the nasturtium pic elsewhere.

These are nasty little things to photograph, they do all sorts of acrobatics to escape being photographed but I just chase em until they get sick of running away and stop. Either that or I squirt a little mist of water on the fence on a really hot day. Most spiders seem to think a quick photography session is a fair exchange for that.

I think these may be larger about 5mm to 7mm, I am in NSW Central Coast

The first one is the same species, surely? And its a long way from Central NSW to southern Vic. The second is a beautiful little thing, too. They are unwilling to keep still, aren't they? Oh well, it all adds to the fun and frustration.

There were two males sizing each other up and chasing her up the fence. I have never seen them when she was not somewhere near. I am going out on a limb and saying she is the female for this species although they may have been competing.

Frantic little spiders and very beautiful although I think they have disappeared in the last few weeks after their favorite weeds were poisoned by the mower guy

Definetly their female. The struggles make the photos that much more special. I just love these oxyopes!

I sincerely hope this board is one where gaffs and faux pas (whatever the plural may be) are just cause for us to mutually giggle with the gaffer, and be glad people joined in!

I have never managed to photograph these guys (or ones I think were them) so I am in awe of those who managed such good photos. Real cuties, aren't they?
