This beautiful spider is a member of the genus AUGACEPHALUS and is known as a starburst spider, for the pattern on the cephalothorax. About 45mm body length with a lovely golden sheen and striking patterns. Coaxed form her (?) burrow with a blade of grass, she sat quietly for photos, then obliged by sitting on my hand for a few more. THis brought horrified screams from the English ladies on our truck and the Shangaan tracker, (whose not afraid of lions) and a resigned shake of the head from my long-suffering wife (whose not as fond of spiders as I'd like her to be).
